Save Newberry with a little MIX and Magic!
Newberry goes on the AIR
A core team of the Save Newberry Committee Members traveled to Escanaba Michigan on July 21st, 2005. The group included Bev Holmes - Village Manager, Wayne Hellerstedt - CEO of the Helen Newberry Joy Hospital, Rod Martin - Superintendent of the Tahquamenon Area Schools, Kevin Vanatta - President of the Save Newberry Committee, and Gina Harman Web Designer for www.savenewberry.com. The committee visited both the WMXG Mix 106 Station and the WGLQ Magic 97's Studio. >>CLICK HERE FOR FULL STORY!
The time on the air was positive, informative, and fun!
Mike Dubord - Manager and DJ for the Mix 106, introduced the members of the team to the people tuned in the WMXG's morning show. We gathered around the microphones and openly talked as a group with our concerns and worries about Newberry. We discusses the issues about our position as a political football and about the damage that has already occurred in our community. We were all in agreement that the effects would ripple outward to the entire Upper Peninsula and that we must all stand strong to protect the Upper Peninsula. We informed listeners about our website, our Lansing Hearing, and our up and coming goals. Mike's friendly personality and positive input made our experience comfortable and fun.
TJ Ryan - DJ for Magic 97 invited us up to the mic to share our feelings with the listeners of WGLQ. We each took our turn to bring our community problems to light. We discussed the budget targets now directed at Newberry, Manistique, and NMU and that if we do not stand up together and protect the Upper Peninsula, it could be another community next time! Afterwards TJ invited us to cut a promo that will be played on all 5 stations of the Radio Results Network - informing listeners about the Save Newberry project and directing them to the website to become an important part of our grass roots effort. TJ's humor and positive aura made our time special and lively!
Both DJ's were absolutely warm and hospitable. With all the hardships that our committee and community has faced, it has been key people like Mike and TJ that make projects like these effortless!
Each of us "added" our opinions, solutions, and ideas to "the Mix", in hopes for a little "Magic" to happen! Thank you to both of these great stations for allowing us to share our issues with the great people of the Upper Peninsula!
